The recent Amazon documentary LulaRich is a four-episode crash course in Business Culture 101. The MLM company LulaRoe is what some might call a pyramid scheme. But beyond the red flag buzzword, LulaRoe’s near complete collapse is more than a cautionary tale of empty promises and gaudy clothing (hamburger print leggings? seriously?). There are nine lessons businesses both big and small can take from the documentary.

#1: Sincere work-life balance does not happen when the culture is insincere.

LulaRoe targets stay-at-home moms, pumping the promise of making good money while remaining at home with your kids. On the surface, it does seem like a terrific idea. The problems came when LulaRoe executives pushed retailers so hard that whatever notions of work-life balance promise were given quickly dissipated. One woman interviewed was questioned by her husband as to why she hired someone to make dinner for the kids. She was too consumed with running her leggings business.
